Ultimate Ears Speaker – How To Connect (All UE Speakers)

Ultimate Ears speakers are undoubtedly the best portable Bluetooth speakers one can have. The brand has different models of speakers, and each caters to a specific need and appeals to a specific customer base.

I have the UE Hyperboom speaker and cannot adequately describe the incredible sound quality. But before I could test the audio quality, I had to figure out how to establish connections to the speaker.

In this article, you will find information on connecting any model of Ultimate Ears speakers to a source device or other compatible Ultimate Ears speakers.

Ultimate Ears Speaker - How To Connect

Key Takeaways

  • Before connecting any Ultimate Ears (UE) speakers, ensure they are adequately charged.
  • When you power on UE speakers for the first time, they automatically go into Bluetooth pairing mode, and a white LED will flash to indicate the speaker is in pairing mode.
  • All Ultimate Ears speakers support Bluetooth connectivity and can be easily connected to Bluetooth-enabled source devices.
  • The power button on Ultimate Ears speakers is on top of the speaker. It is labeled by a short line doubling as the speaker’s power LED.
  • If the speaker were previously connected to a source device, it would automatically reconnect to the last source device it was connected to when you power it on.
  • If you leave the speaker in pairing mode for more than fifteen minutes without connecting it to a source device, it will automatically switch off to conserve the battery.
  • You can check the speaker’s battery level by pressing and holding the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons simultaneously. The speaker will play an audio prompt telling you the battery percentage.

Connecting Ultimate Ears Speakers to a Source Device

Different models of Ultimate Ears speakers have different ports that facilitate connections between the speakers and a source device. But the most common connection method between the speakers and the source device is the Bluetooth connection method

When you power on the speakers for the first time after purchasing them or performing a factory reset, they will automatically go into pairing mode

You will know the speaker is in pairing mode as the Bluetooth LED will flash white. A solid white Bluetooth LED means the speaker is connected to a source device.

Below are steps on how you can power on different models of UE speakers and get them in pairing mode to establish wireless connections with a source device.

I will also highlight other connection methods that the speakers support.

HYPERBOOM

This is a unique model, especially considering its size, weight, and buttons on the control panel.

UE HYPERBOOM

Like every other UE model, the control buttons are on top of the speaker, and the plus and minus touch buttons are bigger than the other buttons.

To turn on the speaker, press the power button, and it will light solid white, indicating that the speaker is on.

The speaker will then automatically get the Bluetooth channel one into pairing mode; thus, you will see the B1 LED flash white repeatedly.

At this point, you can go to your source device’s Bluetooth settings and complete the pairing process from there.

Once you have connected the first source device to the B1 channel, you can connect an additional source device to the speaker by pressing the B2 button.

The B2 button LED will start flashing, and you can complete the pairing process on another source device. Now you can press the B1 or B2 button to switch between source devices and continue audio playback.

Suppose you wish to force the speaker into pairing mode press and hold the respective Bluetooth channel mode button until it starts flashing white. Therefore, if you press and hold the B1 button, the first Bluetooth channel will go into pairing mode, and the same will happen for the second channel if you press and hold the B2 button.

The speaker will appear as ‘Ultimate Ears HYPERBOOM’ while scanning for it via Bluetooth on other devices.

The speaker can also be connected to source devices via the Optical input or the AUX port on the speaker.

Optical input or the AUX port

Once you connect a source device to the speaker via the above ports, press the source buttons to go to the input source you want to be on.

The button labeled with a circle will take you to the AUX input, and the square button will take you to the optical input source.

WONDERBOOM

Press the power button to power on this speaker; you should see it light white to show the speaker is on.

The power button is located on top of the speaker under the UE logo, and a vertical straight line labels it. The line/button also acts as the power LED, as it does on all other UE speakers.

The speaker will automatically go into pairing mode the first time you turn it on or if you are turning it on for the first time after a reset.

If it was initially connected to a source device, it will automatically reconnect to the last device it was connected to.

You can force the WONDERBOOM speaker into pairing mode by pressing and holding the Bluetooth button until you hear a unique audio prompt indicating the speaker is in pairing mode. The Bluetooth LED will also start flashing blue.

The Bluetooth button is above the UE logo below the speaker’s handle and has the Bluetooth LED incorporated.

The speaker will appear as WONDERBOOM on source devices when you scan for available Bluetooth devices on a source device.

You can only connect a source device to this speaker via Bluetooth as it does not have other connection methods.

The speaker can actively connect to two source devices.

The above steps also work for Wonderboom 2, Wonderboom 3, Megaboom 3, and Boom 3. The only difference is that they will appear with their respective names when you scan for available Bluetooth devices.

Also, the Wonderboom 3 uses tones to notify you of the battery level when you simultaneously press and hold the plus and minus buttons.

Note that some models like the Wonderboom 2, Wonderboom 3, Megaboom 3, and Boom 3 lack the UE logo, but the button arrangement is the same as on the Wonderboom speaker.

The buttons are on top of the speaker, just below the handle. The first button is the Bluetooth button, the second is the Magic button, and the last is the power button.

The power button is labeled by a straight line, acting as the power LED.

The plus and minus buttons are located on the front of the speaker, and they are big enough so you will not miss them.

BLAST & MEGABLAST

The first step to setting up these speakers is downloading the Ultimate Ears Blast and Megablast app from the Play store or App store. The app is necessary since these models can connect to Wi-Fi and need an internet connection to update the firmware when you set them up for the first time

Once you download the app, you can power on the speakers.

The center button is on the top end of the speaker, and labeled with a line is the power button. To turn on the speaker, simply press it, and the speaker will turn on, and the power button will light solid white. You will also hear a drum tone whenever you power the speaker on or off.

Ensure Bluetooth is activated on your phone and the phone is connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to connect the speaker to before opening the app and turning on the speaker.

Once you download and launch the app and tap ‘begin setup,’ it will guide you through several prompts, including connecting the speaker to Wi-Fi, updating your speaker’s firmware, connecting to the speaker via Bluetooth, and signing into your Amazon account to access Alexa.

Remember to turn on the speaker before beginning the setup process on the app.

If you notice the speaker’s power LED is solid red, the speaker’s battery is critically low. When you connect it to a power outlet, the LED will start flashing red, indicating the speaker is charging, but the battery is still very low.

MEGABOOM & BOOM 2

The Boom 2 speakers have two buttons on the top, unlike the Wonderboom 3 or the Megaboom 3. The two buttons are the Bluetooth and power buttons at the center top.

Press the power button to power on the speaker, and it should light solid white. The speaker will automatically go into pairing mode, and the Bluetooth LED integrated into the Bluetooth button will start flashing white.

You can force the speaker into pairing mode by pressing and holding the Bluetooth button until you hear a chime from the speaker, and the Bluetooth LED starts flashing rapidly.

The speaker also has an AUX port on the bottom, and you can lift the waterproof cover to reveal the AUX and charging ports.

Therefore, you can use a male-to-male 3.5mm AUX cable to connect the speaker to a source device with an AUX port.

These instructions apply to the Megaboom and Roll 2 models. On the Roll 2 model, the power and Bluetooth buttons are found on the back of the speaker.
