If the speaker is too heavy, the drywall will not be able to support the weight and will get damaged. Your speaker will be damaged, as well. It doesn\u2019t matter what anchor type you use.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Joists in the ceiling, on the other hand, can handle much more weight than the drywall itself<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That&#8217;s why you need to find the joist and fasten the ceiling plate to it.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The common joist dimension is 2&#215;6&#8243;, so you may have to add blocking between the joists and screw one side of the plate into the blocking. Typical plastic expansion anchors, even self-drilling plastic anchors, aren\u2019t strong enough to hang things from the ceiling! They rely on compression within the drywall or plaster itself, and the TENSIONAL FORCE of gravity is too strong for this type of connection. Instead, I like to at least use TOGGLE BOLTS...and the newer TOGGLER-style bolts are even more convenient. If I need to hang something over 10 lbs. from the ceiling, I\u2019ll often FIND A JOIST to hang from instead. Joists are the framing lumber in our ceilings and floors, and it\u2019s extremely strong.
